Guided reading will consist of many different activities this year. I look forward to incorporating Daily 5 stations, guided reading groups, individual conferences, socratic seminars, innovative projects, and technology.
It is going to be a great school year and I cannot wait to work with each student to improve his/her reading comprehension, fluency, and of course promote the LOVE of READING!

Homework |
Reading Log: Each student will be responsible to set weekly/daily reading goals and read a wide variety of books of their choosing. The goals will be written in their agendas, so you can help encourage your child to meet these goals. I will conference with each student weekly to check on their reading status. Please help students plan a 30 minute daily block of time at home to enjoy reading their books.
Hot Topics/Current Events: Students will have a weekly Hot Topic or Current Event they will learn about and complete tasks and take quizzes on the content they have studied. Most of this will be completed at school, however students may need to review the content before taking the quiz and complete part of the tasks at home. |
40 Book Challenge |
Students will be encouraged to read a variety of genres this school year. This goal has been created in hopes of students discovering an interest in certain genres they might not of read otherwise. Students will keep up with a book log all year to track their progress. There will be a mid year goal/ prize of twenty books and an end of the year goal for forty books read.

Club Tome |
I am encouraging all students to read the 2018-19 selected Tome Books books this year. I am working with Mrs. Weldon on the details. I would love for students to compete in the challenge! More information to come!
